Salmon Fishing in Ireland
The Atlantic Salmon ("Bradán" in Gaelic), is a native Irish fish. Salmon can be caught in Irish waters from January - October. The bigger fish known as 'Springers' tend to run in the early months of the year and weigh an average of nine pounds. To catch one, especially on the fly is a triumph and anglers have the best chance of taking a 'Springer' in rivers such as the Drowes in Co. Donegal River's Duff, Drowes River and Lough Easke are very popular rivers nearby.
Pike (Esox lucius) are the largest of the freshwater predators and are abundant in all Irish watercourses from small to large loughs as well as rivers and canals. Irish pike grow quickly and can reach up to 20 Kg. Pike fishing has now developed an excellent reputation for the quality of its pike fishing. There is no statutory close season for pike in Ireland and anglers may fish for pike all year round.
Assaroe Lake in Ballyshannon and some smaller lakes near Pettigo Town are very good pike fishing. Permits from ESB required for Assaroe lake - Good accessible bank. Other smaller lakes in the Pettigo provide good pike fishing from shore and boat

Sea Angling Destination
The island of Ireland has for many years been recognised as one of the Worlds premier sea angling destinations. The coastline is among the most varied and spectacular in the northern hemisphere with it's hundreds of tranquil bays and backwaters, roaring surf beaches, and miles of awe inspiring sea cliffs. The diverse nature of the coastline and Ireland's unique geographical position, on the edge of the European continental shelf, where the inshore waters are warmed by the North Atlantic Drift (an offshoot of the Gulf Stream) means that the native marine life is extremely rich and varied. The coastal waters of Ireland abound with fish and visiting sports fishermen can expect something in the region of 80 species to aim at, so anything from a blenny of a few grams to a bluefin tuna of over 400 kg can be expected!
Sea Angling Sea Angling in Ireland can be divided into distinct categories:
Shore Angling: (spinning, fly fishing, bottom fishing) from beaches, rocks, estuaries, quays and piers ie Creevy Pier, Bundoran Pier, Rossnowlagh or Bundoran Beach. Sand fishing, if required for ray, dab, turbot, plaice and other species of flat fish can be sampled just off Rossnowlagh 's magnificent Blue Flag Beach, or towards the mouth of the Erne Estuary at Ballyshannon where the might Erne system which rises in County Cavan empties into the Ocean. To quote some international angling journalists who have fished these waters in recent years, "this truly is an anglers paradise".
Deep Sea Angling: (trolling, bottom fishing, wreck fishing, and drift fishing for shark) usually from purpose built charter vessels of 9 metres (30 feet) and over, and capable of carrying 12 passengers up to 32km (20 miles) offshore. This is the form of fishing on which much of Ireland's international sea angling reputation has been built. There are currently over 100, top quality, state certified, charter boats dotted around the coast offering the whole gamut of offshore fishing experiences. An Duanai Mara is such a vessell
